Casepak joins RECOUP

Casepak is at the forefront of the recycling sector in the UK, and we are always looking to help shape, endorse and adopt new practices to make recycling more effective and efficient to develop circular economies.

With this goal in mind, Casepak is delighted to have recently joined RECOUP, the UK’s leading independent authority on plastics recycling.

Founded in 1990, RECOUP is a registered charity that aims to connect the whole plastics value chain to develop the plastic circular economy and educate the public and businesses on all aspects of plastics recycling and resource efficiency.  The charity has 170 members, ranging from manufacturers through to local authorities, waste management companies, reprocessors and universities.

Casepak’s membership has been welcomed by RECOUP’s Chief Executive Officer Stuart Foster, who said: “We are very pleased to welcome Casepak to RECOUP. By bringing the organisations together, we can accelerate positive change in plastic circularity, and look forward to collaborating, supporting and developing practical, informed solutions.”

Membership provides Casepak with an opportunity to share our knowledge and expertise of the challenges and opportunities faced by recycling service providers with the rest of the industry. It will enable us to collaborate more closely with other organisations in the sector and contribute to RECOUP’s goal to fully develop the plastic circular economy, and we’re determined to make the most of our membership and proactively contribute to RECOUP in a positive way.

Last month a few of our team had a great day in Leeds attending the annual RECOUP Summit, which brings together people from across the plastics, packaging, recycling, retail, manufacturing and policy sectors. A key theme throughout the summit was how the UK’s recycling system must adapt to reflect modern material flows. Among the speakers, ReallyRecycle outlined a future where local, decentralised micromanufacturing hubs could turn waste into new products, and Enviroo highlighted the current mismatch between supply and demand for recycled content, and the need for greater domestic processing capacity.

Although very recent members of RECOUP, our team was thrilled to also hear a talk from Polytag on how tracking packaging through digital markers can provide real-world insight into what happens to materials after use, in which Casepak and the Polytag installation we have onsite at our MRF were mentioned.

Also speaking at the event was Reconomy’s David Gudgeon who spoke about the importance of collaboration to overcome the challenges of future advancements, using data that had been collected from our own MRF.

With a number of name checks for Casepak at the summit we’re already feeling very comfortable in RECOUP, and it clearly demonstrated just how big a role we can play in the organisation going forwards – we’re excited to really get stuck in and contribute to making a positive change in plastic circularity.
